In choosing a watch for travel I would consider the following:
1. Band Type
- Leather looks nice and has more styles available but needs more care and absorbs water
- Metal looks nice and is durable but cleaning can be an issue plus some people just don’t like the weight and feel of it
- Rubber is lightweight, comfortable, and easy to clean but it is hard to find styles other than the large sports-watch type.
2. Analog (classic looks) vs Digital (more functions like stopwatch/timer/alarm/etc.)
3. Make sure your watch has a built-in light.
4. Water Resistance of at least 100 meters for surfing and most outdoor sports (200m if you want to go diving).
5. Band that is screwed on to watch or a single, solid piece is preferable to a band held by spring pressure.
